Sunset Suite in AlMalqa district
About
You know what caught me off guard about the Sunset Suite in AlMalqa district? I mean, I'd heard good things, but honestly wasn't expecting much from a 4-star place in what's essentially a business district. Boy, was I wrong. The moment you walk into this place, there's this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what travelers need – not just what looks good in photos. The lobby has this warm, understated elegance that doesn't try too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me, which is rarer than it should be these days.
What really sold me on this place was how they've managed to create this peaceful bubble right in the heart of Riyadh's busiest commercial area. I mean, AlMalqa can get pretty hectic during business hours – all those gleaming office towers and the constant hum of commerce – but step inside the Sunset Suite and it's like the city noise just melts away. The rooms are spacious (actually spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious), and whoever designed them clearly understands that business travelers need proper workspace and leisure travelers want to spread out. The beds are fantastic – I'm talking sink-right-in comfortable – and the bathrooms have this rainfall shower that honestly made me extend my stay by a day just to enjoy it again. The suite setup is clever too; there's a proper separation between the sleeping area and the sitting room, so you can actually have a video call without your unmade bed photobombing the background.
Here's the thing that really impressed me though – the little details that show they get it. The WiFi actually works everywhere (shocking, I know), there's proper blackout curtains for those who need to sleep off jet lag, and the mini-fridge is stocked with local dates alongside the usual overpriced snacks. The location is brilliant if you're doing business in the financial district – you can literally walk to most of the major corporate offices – but it's also surprisingly convenient for exploring the city since you're well-connected to the main roads without being stuck in the tourist bubble. Parking was a breeze, which anyone who's driven in Riyadh will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The 9.5 rating they've got? Yeah, I can see it. It's one of those places where everything just works the way it should, without any of the pretension you sometimes get at higher-end hotels. I'd definitely stay here again, and that's saying something because I'm pretty picky about my hotels after years of travel disappointments.
