You know what? I almost walked right past Mabaat – Al Qairawan – 54 the first time I was looking for it – honestly, it’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention from the street, but that’s actually part of its charm. This 3-star spot has this understated vibe that I’ve come to really appreciate, especially after staying in too many overly flashy hotels that promise the world and deliver mediocre service.

What struck me right away was how genuinely welcoming the staff are – and I mean that in the best possible way, not the rehearsed “welcome valued guest” nonsense you get at chain hotels. The lobby’s got this lived-in feeling that somehow manages to be both comfortable and clean, which is honestly harder to pull off than you’d think. My room was… well, it wasn’t going to win any design awards, but everything worked properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is), the bed was actually comfortable, and the bathroom had decent water pressure. I mean, these are the things that matter when you’re tired and just want a good night’s sleep, right?

The thing that really impressed me – and this is why I keep coming back when I’m in the area – is how smoothly everything runs here. Check-in was quick, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building (tested it in the lobby, my room, even the hallways because I’m neurotic about these things), and when I had a minor issue with the air conditioning, someone was up to fix it within twenty minutes. That 9.1 rating makes total sense once you stay here because it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, reliable place that does the basics really well, which honestly beats those fancy places that look great in photos but fall apart when you actually need something. The location works well too – you’re not stuck in some touristy bubble, but you’re not so far out that getting around becomes a hassle. I’ve stayed here during both busy and quiet periods, and the service stays consistent, which tells you something about how they run the place.
