IntercityHotel Riyadh Malaz
About
You know what really surprised me about IntercityHotel Riyadh Malaz? It's one of those places that doesn't try to be the flashiest hotel in the city, but somehow gets all the important stuff absolutely right. I mean, when you're dealing with Riyadh's intense heat and the general chaos of getting around Saudi Arabia's capital, you want a place that just works - and this one does.
The Malaz district itself is honestly pretty interesting if you're into seeing how locals actually live rather than just hitting the tourist spots. You're not stuck in some sterile business district here, which I actually appreciated. There's this authentic neighborhood energy around the hotel, with small shops and cafes that stay open late (important when you're adjusting to local meal times). The staff - and this is something I noticed right from check-in - they seem to actually know the area well enough to give you real directions, not just the standard "take a taxi everywhere" advice you get at some international chains. One guy at the front desk walked me through the best times to avoid traffic when heading toward King Abdulaziz Road, which saved me probably an hour of sitting in gridlock.
What really won me over though was how the hotel handles the practical stuff that can make or break your stay in Riyadh. The air conditioning is properly powerful (trust me, you'll care about this), the water pressure is excellent, and - this might sound small but it's huge - they have blackout curtains that actually block out the intense desert sun when you need to sleep in. The rooms have this clean, unfussy design that feels more European than typical Middle Eastern hotel decor, which makes sense given it's a German chain. Nothing fancy, but everything feels solid and well-maintained. I stayed on the sixth floor and it was surprisingly quiet considering you're in the middle of a pretty busy neighborhood. The Wi-Fi actually worked reliably too, which isn't always a given even at four-star places here.
Honestly, the breakfast situation exceeded my expectations - they've got a good mix of international options alongside local dishes, and the Arabic coffee is the real deal. I found myself lingering there most mornings just watching the mix of business travelers and local families. The dining area gets pretty lively around 8 AM, so if you prefer quieter mornings, get there earlier. One thing I'd mention is that while the hotel doesn't have a pool (the heat makes outdoor pools less appealing anyway), they do have a decent fitness center that's actually air-conditioned properly. For what you're paying - and Riyadh hotel prices can get pretty steep - you're getting solid value without any major compromises. It's the kind of place where you'll sleep well, eat well, and not spend half your trip dealing with hotel-related headaches.

Staff are amazing and the hotel is exceptional.
Clean, Location, Free underground parking, TV system
The place was nice and quiet and away from the hustle and bustle .. but had a nice large lounge with cafe and good food/snacks . We spent more time there than in our room when at the hotel. Easy to get everywhere with taxis The dining was large and airy and comfortable and there was a decent spread and election for breakfast, even at 10.00am. The staff were very polite and helpful at breakfast. The room are like in the pictures and beds comfortable .
The hotel and location were generally very good. Riyadh Zoo is within walking distance, which the children enjoyed. The room was spacious and comfortable with a good price considering the general price range in Riyadh. It was very clean, thanks to Mr. Sharif who cleaned it for us daily.
