Grand Plaza Hotel – Dhabab Riyadh
About
Look, I'll be honest - when I first pulled up to the Grand Plaza Hotel - Dhabab Riyadh, I wasn't expecting much from the exterior. It's one of those solid, dependable-looking buildings that doesn't scream luxury but definitely whispers "we've got our act together." And you know what? That first impression was pretty spot-on.
The lobby hits you with that perfect balance of modern and traditional Saudi hospitality - marble floors that actually stay cool under your feet (trust me, this matters in Riyadh), and staff who seem genuinely pleased to see you rather than just going through the motions. I mean, the check-in was surprisingly smooth, which is saying something because I've dealt with my fair share of hotel bureaucracy in the region. The rooms are what I'd call "thoughtfully appointed" - not overly fancy, but everything works the way it should. The AC actually keeps up with the desert heat (seriously crucial), the Wi-Fi doesn't drop every five minutes, and the beds are firm enough that you won't wake up feeling like you've been wrestling camels all night. The bathrooms are spotless, with decent water pressure - honestly, these are the details that matter when you're dealing with long travel days.
What really impressed me though was how the hotel manages to feel both international and authentically Saudi at the same time. The restaurant serves solid Middle Eastern dishes alongside international options, and the coffee - well, let's just say they take their Arabic coffee seriously here, which I can definitely appreciate. The prayer room is thoughtfully located and well-maintained, showing they understand their guests' needs. Parking was straightforward (no circling the block three times), and the location puts you close enough to the main business districts without being right in the chaos of rush hour traffic. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense to me - this isn't a place that's trying to be the flashiest hotel in the city, but it's definitely one where you'll sleep well, eat well, and feel like the staff actually cares about your experience. For a 4-star property, it punches above its weight in all the ways that actually matter when you're traveling for business or exploring the capital.
