Alma Hotel
About
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Alma Hotel, I wasn't expecting much from the exterior, but this place really surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a hotel just feels right the moment you step inside? That's exactly what happened here. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance that doesn't feel stuffy or overly formal, and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to see guests arrive (which, let's face it, isn't always the case these days).
What really impressed me was how they've managed to nail that sweet spot between comfort and character. The rooms are well-appointed without being flashy – I mean, you've got everything you need without feeling like you're paying for amenities you'll never use. The beds are properly comfortable (and I'm picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you're not bumping elbows with your travel companion. Actually, the shower pressure was excellent, which might sound like a small thing but it's one of those details that can make or break a stay. I also appreciated that the windows actually open – seems like half the hotels I visit these days have sealed windows, so getting some fresh air was nice.
The service here is where Alma Hotel really shines, honestly. It's that 4-star level where they're attentive without being hovering, if you know what I mean. When I had a question about local restaurants, the front desk person didn't just hand me a generic brochure – they actually gave me specific recommendations and even called ahead to check availability at one place. That kind of personal touch makes a difference. The housekeeping was spot-on too, and they were flexible about timing when I needed to work from the room during odd hours. With an 8.8 rating, you'd expect good service, but they actually deliver on it rather than just promising it. The only minor thing I'd mention is that the elevators can be a bit slow during peak check-in times, but honestly, that's pretty typical for most hotels this size. Overall, it's the kind of place where you feel like you're getting genuine value – not the cheapest option, but you leave feeling like your money was well spent and you'd definitely consider staying again.
